Have you booked the flight to reach the Salento or do you think to arrive by train or car? Well, this short guide will give you useful information to deal with the movements in Salento by whatever means you want to reach it.

Inquire before, how to move in Salento will not be a problem for your holiday!

How to move in Salento?

Arrived in Salento you will have the opportunity to move in a car (yours or by renting one), by bus or train. The network of buses and trains in the Salento is very thick, even if the travel times are much longer than those of a trip with their own car.

Buses and trains pass obviously in population centres. So, if your destination is a villa immersed in Salento’s countryside, these may not be the ideal means to reach your destination.

Move by car

If you have arrived by car, know that you will spend a lot of time from one village to another in a sort of spatial continuity. Driving along the largest arteries, high-speed roads such as the SS 101 Lecce-Gallipoli or the SS 16 Lecce-Maglie, you will easily reach the Ionian coast or the Adriatic coast. From the same state you will be easy to reach the villages of the hinterland but immediately set the Google navigator, because it is easy not to understand in which country you are.

To reach the south Salento, you can instead take the SS 275 that crosses this strip of land centrally, passing through small villages. Or, you can opt for the coastal road Otranto-Santa Maria di Leuca if you are on the Adriatic coast or the Gallipoli -Santa Maria di Leuca if you are on the Ionian side.

Pay attention to Speed Cameras and Photored to avoid unpleasant surprises! The speed cameras in the area are constantly updated on  Autovelox Lecce e Provincia.

Move by train

If you arrive in Lecce by train, know that from Lecce you will have to continue with Ferrovie Sud-Est. Lecce Station is very close to the historical centre that can be reached on foot in just 10 minutes.

If you need to call the station for more information on the available routes or on the train-bus connections or changes to be made, you can contact us on 0832 303403.

Founded in 1933, they constitute the second largest railway network in Italy.

Choosing to travel in Salento by train is assumed to be immersed in the slow pace of this territory. On a journey that will take you to see old stations and rural landscapes Salento’s countryside, thus being able to admire the tranquillity of this territory. This is the gift you will receive even if the trip will cost you a few more hours.

If you like this trip, I suggest you reserve a few hours of your holiday to visit the Railway Museum in Lecce. It is one of the rare museums in Italy dedicated to rail transport, only 15 in Italy and only 2 in the South.
